Newly opened historic village pub, The Bugle in Hamble and popular local charity, The John Merricks Sailing Trust have joined forces to host a charity fundraising cricket match on Wednesday 7 September 2005 to help raise money for young sailors and youth sailing organisations.
Sponsored by The Bugle and Linden Homes, the match will take place at 6.30pm – 9.00pm on Hamble Playing Field, Spitfire Way. Players of all ages and abilities will be aiming to score as many runs as possible. Linden Homes will contribute £1 to the charity for each run scored and The Bugle will provide food, refreshments and other goodies.
The event is open to everyone and will include a delicious BBQ, summer Pimms and a special raffle with some top prizes for the lucky winners including a signed shirt from England and Hampshire player, Kevin Peterson.
The Trust was set up eight years ago following the sudden death of the 1996 sailing Olympic Silver Medallist, John Merricks. It seeks to help young people who have the same drive, determination and commitment to sailing as John did, but who need support to help them to achieve their goals.
