Ockam Europe to distribute Windspar carbon wind sensor wands

Ockam Europe has been awarded the exclusive rights for the distribution of Windspar elliptically profiled vertical carbon wands for Europe.

Campbell Field of Ockam Europe states “The Windspar elliptical wands have been used for the last nine years by the world's top racing teams due to their advanced design and the distinct advantages of their features. They have only been seen in Europe on a few high end yachts, whose managers have sourced the best products for their systems. I look forward to making this product available to the entire European market, as they are a perfect marriage with Ockam’s high tech instrument systems.”

The Windspar wands are available in eight models, all hand made to the strictest standards. In line with Ockam’s open approach to instrument sensors, as standard they employ the B&G wind sensor, so are compatible with all B&G systems, and can be built to customer requirements for other brands of instrument systems and sensors.

The advantages of the system are that the wand elevates the wind sensor out of the worst of the upwash from the sail, thus making wind speed and direction readings more accurate. Made in high modulus carbon fibre, the wand has a low drag elliptical shape offering nine times less drag than a round tube wand.

Eight models are available ranging in height from 0.6 to 1.8m and with a choice of flange or socket bases. Ockam claim the wands are easy to retrofit to masts as they come with standard connectors.
