Olympic hopefuls cross swords in Santander

The Yngling Women's World Championship gets underway in Santander, Spain on Monday, with most of the top ranked teams taking part in the pre-Athens program.

While below we have listed the entries and their current ISAF ranking. At present this shows the Danish team led by Dorte Jensen lead ahead of Ullrike Schuemann's Germany team and Betsy Alison from the US (although it will be Carol Cronin's team representing the US in Athens).

It will be interesting to see how this compares with more recent form. Team GBR's Shirley Robertson, Sarah Ayton and Sarah Webb are on a high following their win at Hyeres, but finished sixth at the Princess Sofia Regatta in Palma. Second at Hyeres was Kristen Wagner's German team who were also second in Palma, while third was Sally Barkow. Also to be watched are Annelies Thies' Dutch team, winners from the Princess Sofia.

Racing runs from Monday through until Sunday (10-15 May) with a reserve day on Thursday 13 May.
