A new 3KVA model from Genacis

The new Dolphin M3D diesel generator from GenACis has arrived.

The most frequently asked question about generators is “what’s the smallest one you do?” and up to now the smallest GenACis have had available was the original Dolphin M3. Now they say they have the smallest lightest diesel generator on the UK market.

The acoustic capsule of the new Dolphin M3 measures 450mm long and 320mm wide or less than 18” x 13”. That’s one big advantage to start with but the weight of this 3kVA diesel generator has also gone down from 80kgs to just 56kgs!

Like the big brothers in the Dolphin range (which come with 11 different outputs from 4 to 16kVA), the new M3D is fully water-cooled for guaranteed output under all temperature conditions. By water-cooling the electrical alternator as well as the engine, the ambient air temperature of even the hottest engine room will not de-rate the Dolphin generator output.

The new Dolphin M3D provides 3kVA of 230v power, around 2.8kW continuously. On most boats that’s enough to run the immersion heater, battery charger plus microwave etc or maybe an air conditioner for that added luxury. Even blue water cruisers (where historically a minimum 4kVA generator was essential, particularly if AC powered water makers were used) can now consider this remarkable new generator because of the latest developments in efficient DC water makers, allowing the generator to run in battery charger support.

If all that wasn’t enough, the new Dolphin M3D has another clever trick to offer. As an option, at the touch of a button the generator will drop its running speed down to an optimum 2600 rpm. In this mode, the noise level is even quieter, fuel economy is maximised and service life greatly extended. The AC power will reduce to 1.7kW which is fine for keeping the water hot and that all important extended battery charging period to really let the batteries absorb their charge over a longer period.
