Bavaria Match at Southampton Boat Show
Thursday September 11th 2003, Author: Clive Barlett, Location: United Kingdom
Opal Marine will launch Bavaria’s first Cruiser Racer, the 38 Match, at the Southampton Boat Show. This is the first of three yachts in the range of Match high performance cruisers which will be introduced over the coming months.
The J&J/Doug Peterson-designed 38 Match will be followed by the 41 Match and the 34 Match early in 2004. Having already acquitted itself well by taking part in three races at the Copa del Roy in Palma, and beating the majority of production yachts in its class, the Bavaria 38 Match is set to excel at club racing in the UK.
This attractive and well thought out yacht has an overall length of 11.36m, a LWL of 9.75m, a beam of 3.71m and a lead fin keel of either 2.25m (standard) or 1.75m (optional). With a displacement of approx. 6 tonnes and a sail area of up to 91 sq.m, the 38 Match provides superb sailing performance in either cruising or racing mode, with the characteristic ease of handling of all the Bavaria range.
The 38 Match has a fractional rig and a comprehensive set of racing specifications. These include a keel stepped mast either standard aluminium or optional carbon fibre; rod rigging; lowered tow rail aft for comfortable sitting out; Harken Quatro winches and deck gear; spectra halyards; spinlock halyard stoppers; an optional carbon wheel; ergonomic helmsman’s seat which provides excellent visibility past the crew position; and a deep, elliptical balanced rudder with stainless steel duplex shaft and self-adjusting pendulum bearings.
Engine power is provided by a Volvo Penta MD 2030 29hp engine with sail drive and folding propeller which ensures minimum drag when sailing, and maximum efficiency when needed.
The interior of the Bavaria 38 Match provides the level of comfort that Bavaria owners have come to expect from one of Europe’s leading builders. A choice of 2 or 3 cabin layouts sleeps up to 8 people, while the spacious saloon features a comfortable settee for dining around a removable, luxuriously finished saloon table. The navigation area features a full chart table with generous instrument space and chart stowage.
For customers whose comfortable cruising requirements exceed their racing needs, and yet still enjoy a fast cruiser, Bavaria will continue to provide an extensive range of optional comforts; such as teak decks, hot water, showers, refrigerators, and much more.
Bavaria Yachts’ manufacturing facilities incorporate the most advanced technologies developed for boat building, and ensure that every yacht leaving the factory meets the rigorous quality demands set by the company in co-operation with external quality standard organisations.
The Bavaria 38 Match will represent the outstanding value-for-money for which Europe’s most advanced yacht builders are renowned. The yacht will be first seen at the Southampton Boat Show and will be priced from a very competitive £72,300 excluding VAT, sails and spinnaker pole.
