For the style conscious sportsman, or sportswoman, Suunto has brought out its smartest, lightest, classiest wristop computer watch yet, the new titanium Observer Sport.
Weighing just 65g, the practical, sporty new Observer can help you tell where you are, what direction you’re going in, what the weather’s likely to do, and it can even tell you what time it is in two countries at once.
The Observer Sport is perfect for office wear, yet rugged enough to withstand bumps and knocks at the top of Everest, or at the bottom of the sea.
Its small dimensions, ultra-lightweight casing and comfortable rubber strap make it suitable for women as well as men, as it is easily the most chic, as well as being the lightest wristop computer in the Suunto stable.
Packed into the Observer Sport are chronometer, altimeter, barometer and electronic compass, as well as a massive logbook; it features large, easy-to-use buttons (even for cold, gloved fingers) and easy-to-read, clear functions, with a backlight for using the computer in the dark. All there to minimise the dangers, and maximise the enjoyment, of your outdoor adventures!
The functions are simple to use, and a fulsome manual accompanying the Observer Sport explains the myriad things it can do at the touch of a button.
Functions
The altimeter will work at the top of Mount Everest, being good up to 9,000m, with a resolution of just 1m. It incorporates a unique locking device, so that you can ‘lock’ the barometric pressure measurement, whilst keeping the altimeter active and accurate as it gives your altitude.
For mountaineers, skiers, fell runners, and other outdoor enthusiasts, it measures rate of vertical movement in intervals of 1 second for three minutes, then every 10 seconds or less, recording up to 99 single logs, including total ascent, total descent, number of runs/climbs, etc, with one button access to intermediate information.
The logbook stores total vertical ascent/descents, average rates, number of runs skied etc. Its exceptional memory can record an incredible 3,800 measurements - the largest 24hr logbook capacity on the market! Readings cater for everyone, with optional metric or imperial units available for each individual function.
The barometer, with its four-day memory, works as a weather trend indicator. Its zeroing function, plus the thermometer, can be used to give overnight difference measurements. Its range is from 300-1,100mbar with a resolution of 1mbar, while the sea-level pressure range is 921-1,080mbar, so there’s no question of even the worst hurricane going off the scale! It has a measuring interval of an hour to estimate the barometric trend.
Temperature compensation avoids the inadvertent effects of temperature changes when worn off or next to the skin.
The compass can be used world-wide without adjustment, showing your bearing either in degrees or with a North-South arrow. The bearing tracking function allows you to set a locked bearing, read the actual bearing, and the difference between them; and, for polar explorers and others for whom it is important to differentiate between true North and Magnetic North, you can adjust the compass declination. The resolution is 1°, or, using the North South arrow, =/-5° .
And, just to make sure you’re still awake, turn to the chronometer, and set three, loud, alarms.
The Observer Sport is water resistant to 100m, and the battery, which you can easily change yourself, lasts around 12 months. The wristop computer retails at £279.00.
