Faking It
Wednesday January 8th 2003, Author: Rachel Anning, Location: United Kingdom
Lucy Craig - ferry stewardess turned racing skipper - will be guest of honour on Challenge Business' stand (77A) at the Schroders London Boat Show this Friday, 10 January between 12 and 15.00.
Lucy, who won people's hearts following her appearance on the BAFTA award winning TV show, Faking It, will be visiting Challenge Business and meeting up with her old friends and trainers, who made her both laugh and cry during her intensive training last summer!
Following four weeks of tuition Lucy not only faked her judges, convincing them that she had been sailing most of her life, but also managed to win a five yacht regatta which had the audience on the edge of their seats when she took a daring tack and moved from the back to the front of the fleet. Lucy won a captive audience, not just because of her sheer determination and hard work but by breaking down the barriers which have typically surrounded the world of sailing, and adopting her own sailing 'jargon' particularly when excited or winning a race!
Following her appearance on the show Lucy has had a number of excellent offers including promotional work at the London Boat Show, guest of honour and speaker at the Britannia Yacht Club dinner at the Britannia Royal Naval College, sailing opportunities with Challenge Business and other countless invites from yacht owners so impressed by this young lady from Weymouth who proved that anyone can infiltrate the world of sailing.
Come along to Challenge Business' stand to meet Lucy and find out for yourself what she is getting up to now plus hear some of her stories which never actually made it onto the TV screen including her challenging climb up a Global Challenge yacht's 95' mast, sessions with Inspiring Performance, helming of a dragon boat with 30 over excited children to lead and a session with a hynotherapist designed for confidence! Lucy is still, we are pleased to report, not phased by either sailing or her mentors/ trainers despite a punishing sailing and film schedule which Faking It demanded!
Also look out for Sir Chay Blyth who is being interviewed live at the Boat Show at 15.00 tomorrow afternoon and will also be featured on the 6 O'clock News, Friday 10th January.
