What do you think the impact of this sponsorship will be? Hopefully New Zealanders will understand that the new AREVA
group is about civil nuclear energy and has nothing to do with France's military nuclear past in the Pacific nor with the sinking of
Rainbow Warrior. The French of
Le Défi were also present during last edition of the AC in Auckland but as far as I know did not come under protest because of the sinking of the
Rainbow Warrior.
I do understand that AREVA's sponsoring of Le Défi can be misinterpreted and mis-explained, but I hope you stay objective in your comments and do not turn in this into a verbal battle between 'old enemies' Britain and France. New Zealanders love sailing and I suppose they will be happy with another entry in the AC that comes and spends (part of) its funding in Hauraki Gulf. Not everybody can have the luxury of an ecologically-proof company backing your projects like Belgian's ECOVER does with Mike Golding... The debate on ethical sponsorship is one that many beneficiaries of our sport prefer not to be held...or will you start it?

What do you think the impact of this sponsorship will be? As a French sailor, I'm very glad for Le Defi because we need major sponsor. It is necessary to understand that AREVA is not involved in military nuclear program but only in civil applications. I hope our friends in New Zealand will understand that, if you consider the moral aspect of sponsoring, there are many questions about most of the company involved in such business. For example, when a tennis player is sponsored by Nike, do we ask him if his own shoes are made in South east Asia by children less than 10 years old ? So please, say stop to hypocrisy and... excuse me for my English of "froggie" Yves

What do you think the impact of this sponsorship will be? terrible!!! I've never seen such a stupid decision in sponsoring. The French team seem to have a pretty short memory and seem to have forgottton that they are kiwi's guests... fortunately, I hope they won't go further than the 3rd round to quickly end this stupid waste of state and french tax payer's money... Unfortunatly Greenpeace is not rich enough to sponsor a ship and give them a good lesson of "savoir vivre"
