A reader writes on the continued success of John Kostecki's illbruck team...
Effective preparation, consistent crew, good tactics and navigation, and good leadership always pay out well...in sailing races, and in business. Illbruck is a poster child for all of that. It is all in the details.....
On Geronimo's withdrawal from her Jules Verne Trophy attempt due to rudder cavitation problems Trevor Baylis writes:
My guess would be that she is having problems because she only has the one rudder on centerline. I'm sure they did this to keep the boat simple, but if you look at the pictures the middle hull is just barely in tthe water. I think she'll have three rudders when she goes back in the water.
On Orange's current onslaught on the Jules Verne Trophy
Former multihull racer George Tinley writes: It's early days and something is almost certain to break. What a wonderful machine however and good luck to them. I forecast a beating of the record by two days.
To the question posed - is Orange faster than PlayStation, multihull sailor David Bains offer this...
Almost certainly, especially in ideally selected record breaking conditons. However this does not necessarily mean that Playstation would win a Race, as so far she has not had the reliability. The present plan to travel very light may not get them round the world in one piece. I also suspect that Fossett prefers record breaking to racing.
