Unsurprisingly our readers have plenty to say about madfor
sailing becoming a
subscription based service.
From Dave Pasley
You are like a drug dealer. Give it away for free for a while and then charge for it. You know we will pay. I need my fix! This site is the first place I turn for the news I want! You have a fantastic site keep up the good work. I've already paid! I just needed to know I was still going to be able to get madforsailing when I needed it. Thanks again.
From Colin Smith
Hi, One question please - your 'privacy statement' refers only to third party advertisers - unusually for these things, it doesn't say anything about what you yourselves will do with the information you want to collect if I sign up for a subscription (name, address, email address, etc). So are you intending to make these available to third parties so we get even more junk mail (physical or electronic) or can you guarantee they will be kept confidential? (I'm only signing up if you can!)
Colin, on the subscription form on the secure server appears the following text:
We would like to keep you informed of products and services we think may interest you. If you wish to receive any correspondence from us please indicate how below (two checkboxes). If you don’t, then leave them blank. So Colin, click here , subscribe and just leave those two boxes blank. We won't send you any junk nor will we give your details to anyone else who will.

Hello there. With regard to your charge to access your site, maybe your pricing only amounts to the cost of a round of drinks in UK Pounds. In Canada it works out to about $57.00. Anyway it has been nice knowing you.
Ron! Don’t give up just yet, if you subscribe by the 25th March the cost will be $34.00 (Canadian) for 12 months access to madforsailing. Anyone who needs to convert the £ rate check out this easy currency converter :

Buying yachts and yachting cost me about £25( Ed – try £65) a year to read news that's at best 2 weeks out of date and articles which seem to repeat on a yearly basis. I don't buy it any more and £14.99 seems like a good deal to me. I also mountain bike a lot, you could try the quality quarterly magazine plus up to the minute web site approach championed by www.singletrackworld.com.
It seems Paul Cayard has hit the spot with his views on professional yacht racing.
From Christopher Dalton, California
What do you think of Paul Cayard's views? I think Paul has hit the target. Consistency within the sport will bring consistency from outside the sport (i.e. sponsorship dollars). The product must be entertaining and at the same time reliable for any company to make the investment. Perhaps what Paul calls for is what is needed to get more N. American players involved.
From David, Australia
What do you think of Paul Cayard's views? As a 18 foot skiff sailor for more than 10 years I agree with Paul's view that the numerous racing circuits dilute the public's awareness of who are the Michael Schumacher's or Tiger Wood's of the sport. To be brutally honest, personally I think the majority of sailing events/circuits are not commercially viable and a better scheduling and streamlining of events would create a more attractive product to the general public.
