5 dot Ocean Racer suit

Following their success clothing the winning illbruck team in the Volvo Ocean Race, Gill are launching their 5 dot™ Ocean Racer suit, the first-ever foulweather collection to have been designed to maximise the breathability of the total garment, as opposed to simply the fabric it is made from.
A simple example like the stitching on of a pocket, even if it is unlined, will severely restrict the breathability at that particular point. Then there are fleece pocket linings, mesh garment linings, reinforced seat and knee overlays, hoods, logos, reflective patches, zips and seams, all of which help decrease the breathability of the garment. All of these affect the breathability of a garment - so the breathability of the outer shell is only part of the equation, Gill maintain.
Gill's new 5 dot™ Ocean Racer suit has the following attributes:
High Breathability – design a garment poorly with too many pockets, overlays and patches in key areas and you dramatically reduce garment breathabiilty whatever fabric you use.
Weight is important – approx. 10% lighter than Gill’s previous Ocean suit that used the same fabric and design technology used by Gill’s competitors.
Versatility – The Ocean Racer Suit will appeal to a wide range of sailors because of its weight-saving and performance design.

Innovations – High movement cut in the jacket’s arms, legs and body; high back on trousers; use of water-resistant zips in key areas instead of plackets and overlays; unique shaped reflective jacket hood design with super-quick stowage; smooth Kevlar panels in reinforcement areas.
Pricing – With this new range, Gill now offers superior value in the Ocean clothing market segment
Following their work with illbruck the Ocean Racer Jacket and Trousers are 5 dot™ garments designed to include only the features seen to be essential when facing the most arduous conditions. Non-essential features have been stripped out to increase breathability. The suit is lightweight, features an active cut and the jacket features a new hood design to enhance comfort and freedom of movement.
