Welcome!

madforsailing is not another faceless yacht racing website

Sunday February 3rd 2002, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom

Welcome to madfor sailing and thank you for taking time to read our award-winning website. Based in the UK, we endeavour to bring our readers the best news and features about yacht racing around the world from dinghies to ocean racing to the America's Cup and the whole spectrum in between with unfettered comment from our team of top professional yachting journalists.

Who are madfor sailing ?

Set up just prior to the Sydney 2000 Olympics, by former EMAP heavyweights Tony Harris and Jane Duggan, madfor sailing is owned by madfor sport, who also run the yacht cruising magazine Sailing Today.

Our team includes Editor, James Boyd, a veteran of 12 years at Yachting World magazine and a freelance photojournalist before that. James is a leading authority on offshore racing, having covered three Whitbreads prior to the current Volvo Ocean Race, all the Vendee Globes and Trophy Jules Verne record attempts and has a particular bent towards boats with more than one hull. If it's fast and French, he's your man.

Peter Bentley is a well known photojournalist, whose work has appeared all over the world. For many years he coached Europe Gold medallist Shirley Robertson and is a leading commentator on all forms of yacht racing, but Olympic and youth sailing in particular. Peter is renowned for his uncompromising views on most aspects of our sport.

Andy Rice is well versed in all forms of yacht racing from his work running the racing column at Yachting World magazine. In what little spare time he has he sails one of his two 49ers.

After earning his journalistic stripes as a war correspondent, Ed Gorman's name is best known in our circles as yachting correspondent for The Times. He is known for his honesty and his fearless approach towards covering what are often considered thorny issues.

Our latest recruit is Nigel Cherrie, who handles our dinghy and keel boat coverage. Nigel is well known throughout the sailing world, but particularly in his former role as 'the voice of the RYA' at the Olympics. Nigel has recently returned from Auckland where he has been covering developments in the America's Cup for madfor sailing.

Then there are our columnists who include many top sailors from Olympic medallists such as Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy and Hugh Styles to round the world sailors such as Nick Moloney and Miranda Merron to America's Cup sailors like OneWorld navigator Mark Chisnell formerly madfor sailing's editor.
