Ellen joins the London Boat Show by satellite to tell us of her hopes to do the next Volvo Ocean Race

Friday January 12th 2001, Author: Mark Chisnell, Location: United Kingdom
At midday on Thursday 11th January, Ellen MacArthur joined the London Boat Show by satellite from aboard Kingfisher in the Southern Ocean. On the Volvo Ocean Race Central Stage in London were members of the News Corp V.O. 60 campaign - British skipper Jez Fanstone and crewman Jason Carrington, along with Kiwi project manager Ross Field.

They were joined by Britain's new Youth World gold medallists, Victoria and Emma Rawlinson, recently crowned in Sydney in the double-hander class after blitzing the fleet with two wins on the penultimate day, taking the title with a race to spare. Also beaming in on the satellite, this time from the more comfortable surrounds of Sydney, was Roy Heiner, skipper of the Assa Abloy Volvo Ocean 60.

Ellen talked about her hopes of racing in the next Volvo Ocean Race, she's planning to sail some legs with Dawn Riley. Dawn's been working on her campaign for a while, and is close to securing the final funding and hopes to start building a boat in the next few weeks. But why read it from me, when you can hear it from the girl herself? We've got the webcast of the event right here on madforsailing.

A Sailing Channel production, it's a Quicktime file, 3 Megabytes in size - but well worth watching!
