What do you think about this change at Assa Abloy? This surprise move can never have a positive effect on the campaign. The pressure is likely to have come from the sponsor. Brisius should have held strong and supported his crew, rather than making an emergency move to demonstrate that he is on top of things.
He is achieving exactly the opposite. Apparently we are heading towards football like management changes. But sailing is not like football. The immediate effect is that everybody will feel insecure about his position, afraid to make an error. This is not about Roy or Neal. This is about Assa and Brisius' management team feeling nervous about their campaign. Although they claim the opposite: Roy has been a scapegoat!
From L. Miedema, Amsterdam
What do you think about this change at Assa Abloy? I think it is a hasty and not so clever a move. The team has been together for a long time. The boat is fast and Roy Heiner proved to be a fast sailor (not only now but also in the past; last Whitbread, Admiral's cup etc). These sailors are professionals and they should get on with it. I'm afraid it will take some time for the team to get in the groove again with there new skipper and crewmember. Last minute changes almost never work at once.
From Dave Wilhite
What do you think about this change at Assa Abloy? Canning Roy appears to be an over the top knee jerk reaction. Changing skippers at this early stage might further destabilize a team that is still reeling but from all external signs dealing well with their surprisingly poor finish. Usurping further confidence is not what these guys need or deserve right now. While sailing with ones neck so close to the gallows can not be comfortable I hope the team can dig down and find inner strength to rise above this ugly situation.
From Jean-Louis Flier
What do you think about this change at Assa Abloy? I think it has been a panic decision. As everybody is saying the sport at this level is highly professional , it does not seem a very professional decision. With Roy you know what you got and that he is capable of winning even with poor material (Brunel, Sunergy). As for the management I can of course not tell what is happening aboard the ship itself but I do not think on this level that there will be a Holiday sensation on any of the competing ships. So I Hope he can proof his capacities on another ship with the same speed as the Assa Abloy I am sure he will prove the opposition is wrong.
