Madfor sailing competition winner. Just thought I'd write to say thank you for providing the opportunity for a superb day out to see the start of the EDS Challenge on Saturday. As you can imagine, I never thought that I might win when I entered the competition. My wife, Lisa, and I (pictured above) had a wonderful time, and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to have a look on board Kingfisher, and see the action on the water from such close quarters. Keep up the good work with the website. I find it both interesting and informative, and will certainly be entering any competitions run in the future!

Has Nick Maloney 'seen the light' when it comes to offshore racing? Has he seen the light? Can't answer that but I have to take my hat off to him for managing to experience such diversity in so little time. How many people can claim to have raced on America's Cup boats, W60s, Open 60s and Maxi cats to name just a few. I wish!

Has Nick Maloney 'seen the light' when it comes to offshore racing? Hi from Australia. I am not sure what the phrase 'seen the light' means to Nick Moloney but the one thing I do know is that Nick has an amazing love for the sea. Whether it be the America's Cup, Whitbread, windsurfing across the notorious Bass Strait non-stop in 22 hours 11 mins, The Race on Playstation, the Mini-Transat or the EDS, he is in a world of his own. P.S. We are so proud of him.

Was this result to be expected? Yes, I think it was expected as all the girls are on 'D' funding. All the funding was given to Shirley Robertson over the last few years, and rightly so in view of her result in Sydney. But it should not be forgotten just how long it took for Shirley to reach that stage. Most of the girls in Europe are significantly younger and £166 per month goes nowhere near covering expenses for training, etc. If there is to be another 'Shirley' then some funding must be made available to the current squad. It amazes me how blinkered the RYA are in terms of up-and-coming stars. Do you know where Shirley finished in the World championships when she was 21 years old? It would be interesting to find out.
