As you can imagine, this has been a tough leg for the navigators. We've all missed opportunities but that's yacht racing. Since the first five boats rounded Trindade almost together, the time since has been very complicated and not at all straight forward.

A couple of days before the island, we decided to disregard the mark and head south as fast as we could. It all looked good until just before until a day out, so we made a very expensive decision to come back up to the fleet. At the time, it was the right thing to bail out, but it now appears we may have been correct in the first place.

After the island, the fleet headed east but we quickly realized that our best option was to get to the low in the south quickly so we headed south, passing behind most of the other boats and incurring a significant short-term loss. I think it is working out, but only time will tell.
