Golding's crewman Marcus Hutchinson gives insight into life on an Open 60 after a week at sea in the TJV

Sunday November 11th 2001, Author: Marcus Hutchinson, Location: United Kingdom
About two hours later we found ourselves right up beside Bobst Group who must have picked up a lobster pot or something as they were proving to be a bit slower. We sailed past them to weather as we watched the trailing bunch ( Sill, Casto, etc) sailing a bit closer to the land. We haven't seen either land or another boat since that time.

The wind started to build and Ecover started to go faster and faster and faster. The position reports coming in had us in the hunt with Sill leading but significantly further inshore. We wanted the West or the right hand side of the course and we were getting it. Mike's weather information from Commander's Weather, a good bit of gut feeling and lashings of experience, coupled with what yours truly had heard from others in the past seemed to indicate that you would always regret later if you weren't far enough west.
