After a drizzly start this morning the weather is predicted to brighten this afternoon with some bright, yet cloudy, spells. Today will be a perfect photo opportunity for anyone on the mainland who can make it to Lee on Solent.
Class 0 and Class 1, including the incredible 12 Metres, the America's Cup class boat plus maxis such as Skandia Life Leopard and the green-hulled Wild Thing will be heading downwind to round the Lucas buoy situated very close to the shore. They are expected to arrive there around 1.30pm.This should be a spectacle as these boats show their formidable power flying into the mark under spinnaker.
The sportsboat class 9 division and the Mumm 30s will be heading towards Berthon mark and rounding Wadworth just off of the shore line towards Yarmouth at around 1.15pm. The smaller and classic keel boat divisions will be rounding the Lepe Spit buoy off Stansore Point, between the Beaulieu river entrance and Calshot.
Currently the wind is from the south west and averaging 10-14 knots. It is due to increase to 14-18 knots and veer west-south-west later today. We'll have to wait for a few more days before the wind increases again to see the bigger boats fully powered up as they were on Saturday.
