Wednesday March 16th 2011, Author: John Friend, Location: Spain

In addition to the two annual European Match Racing Championships, organised through European Sailing Federation, in 2011 three new events are being introduced into the European Sailing Calendar.

The Notice of Race for the European Youth Sailing Games, being held at Fraglia Vela Riva, on Lake Garda Italy, from 13-18 August, has now been published and entries are open until by 15 April.

The High Performance Grand Prix, which take place over 13-16 October, at Los Alcazares on the Mar Menor, Murcia, Spain, is an international event for invited high performance ISAF, non-Olympic, dinghies, multihulls and boards, namely:

- 29erXX
- D-One
- Formula 18 Multihull
- Kiteboards
- International Moth

This championship is organised under the authority and direction of the EUROSAF, in association with the High Performance Centre Infanta Cristina, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) and the Murcia Sailing Federation with the support of the Consortium La Manga del Mar
Menor, the Mar Menor Sailing Clubs, the Autonomous Government of Murcia and the respective classes.

The Kiteboards have selected this event to be their Kite Cross World Championship of 2011, which is one of the course options should Kiteboarding be selected at a future point as an Olympic discipline.

The D-One have nominated this event to be their 2011 European Championship.

The Notice of Race is now published here.

Exciting racing is guaranteed and spectators will be very welcome.

The third event is the EUROSAF Freestyle Sailing Championship, which is being held at Circolo Vela Torbole, Lake Garda, Italy, on 16-17 July 2011. Racing will be for men and women and boys and girls in the following fleets:

- Senior Fleet (born before 1 January, 1993)
– RS 100 Junior Fleet (born between 1st January, 1993 and 31 December, 1996)
– RS Feva

A maximum of 32 crews will be competing, 16 in each of the Junior and Senior Fleet.

Boats will be provided by the organisers, making it easy for anyone, from anywhere, to enter.

To set this event apart from others, it is the intention of the organisers that the format of racing should be as inclusive, and as varied, as possible. Formats could include: 5 (or less) buoy downwind, figure of 8, slalom, team racing and gates.

The Notice of Race is published here
