Wind direction finder
Wot-tac is a course calculating device that can be used on board dinghies and keelboat racers. The wot-tac will be on display at the RYA Volvo Dinghy Show – Stand D17 – at Alexandra Palace on 5-6 March.
The key features of the wot-tac are
- Predicts the start line bias for a committee boat start
- Predicts the wind angle over the side of the boat for any leg of a race where the bearing is known.
- Predicts whether a gybe or bear away set is preferred on a windward leeward course if there is a wind shift
- Predicts the course bearing to be sailed for an Olympic or Trapezoidal course.
It was invented by Jonathan Abraham who was determined to find a way to predict a wind direction from the side of a boat without using a chart table. As Abraham said: “Every sailor has heard a shout from the bowman – what tack are we on next? It was from that cry of desperation, which I have heard so many times that I had the inspiration for the name for my invention – the wot-tac.It is a patented invention that will become essential for every sailor and revolutionise the way sailors prepare for races.”
The handheld device is supplied with a lanyard and retails at £34.99.
