The ISAF Council today voted in favour of the recommendation for classes proposed by the Events Committee for sailing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. As reported this was:

- Men’s Board or kite board – evaluation

- Women’s board or kite board – evaluation

- Men’s one person dinghy – Laser

- Women’s one person dinghy – Laser Radial

- Men’s 2nd one person dinghy – Finn

- Men’s skiff – 49er

- Women’s skiff – evaluation

- Women’s keelboat – Elliott 6m

- Mixed multihull – evaluation

- Mixed two person dinghy (spinnaker) – 470

So no Star and personally we would have liked to have seen a foiling Moth in there instead of the Finn. It is interesting that there are now two mixed classes in there - the multihull and the 470.

It should be noted that this is not yet cast in stone and will only be voted on inally at the ISAF mid-year meeting to be held next May. Still it is a step in the right direction. We'll publish more on this in due course

Moth at the Olympics? Come on, they are funny boats but leave them where they are. My list is: Finn Tornado mixed Star 470 Men 470 Female 49er mixed Lser Men Laser Female Match Race Men Match Race Female Windsurf can go with "beach sports" together with Beach Volley.

Foiling moth, are you joking, replace the class with the strongest most athletic guys and replace it with a class which can have a scenario of lightest person wins!!
