Late start on Lake Garda
The Zhik RS Eurocup continued today at Fraglia Vela Riva in winds of 20 knots with one race completed.
Some bad weather in the area had initially held up the classic thermal breeze from the south and, with developing thunderstorms in the mountains, the boats had to be moved to a protected zone as the strong and occasionally destructive Ponale wind picked up.
By mid-afternoon, however, the situation had calmed down and the southerly winds had arrived. The staff at Fraglia Vela Riva were, as usual, on top of the situation in coping with the constant wind changes and eventually one race was able to be completed in two race areas on the western side of Trentino Garda.
There isn’t much change in the leaders: Roger Gilbert - Jane Willan still hold the lead in the RS 200 Class with a 3rd consecutive win today and increase their lead over David and Jane Hivey and James Boyce-Sam Tozer each with 9 points.
In the RS 400 Class James Downer (1-2-1) is first followed by Michael Sims (2-1-3).
Steve Birbeck leads in the RS 600 Class with three wins. In the RS 700 Jon Heissig still holds the lead (2-2-1) ahead of Jerry Wales (5-1-2). In the RS 800 Ben McGrane-Roz Allen are ahead of Justin Deal-Ollie Page.
