As Morrison and Rhodes hold second after day two of the 49er Europeans

Rain and shifty winds were the feature for day 2 of the qualifying series at the 49er Europeans in Sopot, Poland. The outer course PRO Atanosios Papantonio described wind shifts of 40 degrees and ranging from 12-20 knots over the course of the day.

After day two the Nicos – Nico delle Karth and Nikolaus Leopold Resch from Austria sailed a 4-3-2-1 to take the lead, breaking the three-way tie from yesterday. But their scoreline were almost matched by Skandia Team GBR's Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes who have moved into second, counting their first race today of a 12th as their discard. Danes Allan Norregaard and Peter Lang hold third despite a DNF in the final race.

Britain has two more boats in the top 10 - Chris Draper and Pete Greenhalgh hold fourth while youngsters John Pink and Rick Peacock are eighth.

The Sibello brothers of Italy had a tough day on the course dropping them to fifth overall followed by Manu Dyan and Stephanie Christidis of France who also fell – to stand in sixth.

Racing continues for the qualification series tomorrow with the finals beginning on 8 July.
