Bollard wins RS300s

Most of the usual suspects, plus others of previously good character gathered at Queen Mary on 13th April for the Fat Face sponsored RS300 meeting. The young guns who had attended training the previous day and the sea-dogs too old to learn new tricks were greeted by Chianti conditions – warm sun, water sparkling in the moderate breeze and a race course not five minutes from the bar.
Nick Bolland, fighting back the years, established an early lead in the opening race, closely pursued by Gavin Young. Steve Cook played the shifts to perfection on the second lap and he and Bolland continued their own private duel to the end of the race, which Bolland shaded on the line.
Race two once again saw Bolland take an early lead which he held to the finish, with Young heading the chasing pack. A youthful burst of exuberance at the finish from Barry Steele almost snatched second place from a tiring Young.
Cook, having capsized in the second race made no mistake in the third to win comfortably from Bolland and Young. This left Bolland as the overall winner, with Cook one point behind in second, and Young in only his second RS300 event close behind in third.
