After the first two weeks of subscription, the 27th Zwitserleven Round Texel already counts 300 participants. As of 1 April sailors have been able to register their participation in the world’s biggest cat race.

Saturday 5 June will see the start of their battle against the elements. They will have to face the surf at ‘Paal 17’, the current, wind and waves during the 100km long distance race around the island. A ProAm-race is to be held on the afternoon 4 June for press and sponsors.
About 600 catamarans are expected to take the starting line of the 27th Zwitserleven Round Texel. As soon as the helicopter gives a smoke signal, the multi-coloured fleet will leave for the lighthouse at the north of the island to return by the Waddensea to the finish at the North Sea. If there is sufficient wind, the first finishers will need about 3.5 hours to round Texel. Tros Radio 3FM will be broadcasting live from the beach.

Promo area

An area on the beach will be set up as promo area, where dealers can show their new boats and offer their services to competitors. Class organisations will have the opportunity to promote themselves as well as the sailing teams.

Round Texel Week

From Wednesday 2 June until Friday 4 June, participants can explore the racing area during the Texel Dutch Open. This event consists of short course races. Many sailors consider it as a warm-up for the Texel Runt on the Saturday. In addition, the Royal Dutch Sailing Federation has officially recognised the event as an Open Dutch Championship. On Thursday afternoon, sailors can traditionally sail the ‘Horstocht’.

Besides Zwitersleven the event isbeing sponsored this year by Repeat Sales Promotions B.V., TNG Swiss watches, Komatsu, Holkema Group, Tros, Mondriaan Onderwijsgroep, SportLive.nl, Nissan, Teso and VVV Texel.
