New insurance for US one designs

US Sailing team up with broker to offer new boat insurance product

US Sailing, national governing body of the sport, has teamed up with Gowrie, Barden & Brett and AIG to offer a new comprehensive insurance program designed specifically for owners of one-design sailboats. This cost-effective program covers one-design classes that are designed for inshore racing and have no auxiliary power. Currently, all 11 Olympic and Paralympic class boats and 22 additional classes are covered in the program, with more classes to be added.

The extensive and comprehensive coverage includes various aspects that are important to sailors. The program offers:
- racing coverage
- worldwide coverage or in the U.S. only,
- coverage for overland transportation (trailering),
- charter coverage (if the owner charters the boat included in the policy,as well as if the owner charters a different boat of the same class),
- coverage provided by an insurance provider that has the highest possible rating, A++, by A.M. Best.

“In today’s marketplace, sailors find it more and more difficult to obtain affordable and comprehensive insurance coverage,” said Lee Parks, US Sailing’s Inshore Director. “We wanted to offer our members an insurance program that would fit their needs and Gowrie Barden & Brett was able to do just that. Our members will benefit greatly from this new program.”
