Team Henri-Lloyd pairing Rob Andrews and David Ellis, from Great Britain, have won the Laser 4000 EuroCup Regatta held at the weekend in Riva del Garda, on Lake Garda, Italy. This is the second event in the EuroCup series, third being in Weymouth in August, which will double as the class' National championship.
Racing started for the 50-strong largely British fleet on 10 July with excellent conditions - sunshine, temperatures in the high 20s and plenty of breeze for all three races. As the day progressed Andrews and Ellis got into their stride with a 22, 2, 1 place card putting them fourth overall.
After three races on Day Two they were heading the leader board at the halfway stage.
Mixed fortunes throughout the fleet in the three races on Day Three saw the pair still leading but unsure of overall victory.
The final day was set to be the decider, but the weather didn’t hold and racing had to be abandoned leaving Andrews and Ellis with their first win. "It's a new pairing," Ellis told madforsailing of his partnership with the former RYA training guru, Rob Andrews. "We've only just started sailing together. I've not sailed 4000s for 3-4 years, but I'd sailed them a fair bit before that." Their next event is the Nationals in Weymouth.
When he's not winning EuroCups David Ellis is Henri-Lloyd's UK Marine Sales Manager.
