The 2008 Fireball Youth Championships are to be held on the 17th & 18th May at Ogston S.C. The event is combined with the two day Fireball open, the 25th Fireball open meeting the club has run.
With camping available on site and five great races planned, this event is set to be unmissable. If the thought of great racing doesn't tempt you, then perhaps some great prizes will, thanks to some generous support from the industry there's a whole host of prizes available to be won, from goody bags and magazine subscriptions to new dinghy smocks and buoyancy aids.
As well as the Youth Championships the club is also looking forward to welcoming Classic Fireball sailors who will be competing for their own prizes amongst the main fleet. With hot food available, free on site camping and a well stocked bar, the club is situated 15 minutes from Junction 28 on the M1 amid the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, an ideal location for a weekends sailing.
So if you are under 21, coming out of the 420, 29er, 405 or other youth class and are unsure of what to sail next, and are looking for a boat with a bigger circuit than the 470 or something more technical and with more to do than the 29er, then joining the Fireball Youth Fleet could be the best thing you've done. Come along and see for yourself this weekend at the Fireball Class Association stand C11 Hall 3 - Great Hall
2008 is set to be a great year for the UK Fireball fleet, with early season training at Draycote, over 80 entries expected for the 42nd World Championships to be held in Thailand in March, and a return to the ever popular Mounts Bay for the National Championships later in the year.
Ogston SC has many years experience in running big events, having hosted Zone Championships, Schools Regattas and numerous Areas events for many
classes, and is looking forward to welcoming the Fireball Fleet in May.
