Over 50 pre-entries are now registered for the PSP 2008 RS Feva World
Championships

With three and half months to go to the opening ceremony in excess of 50 entries have been received for the RS Feva World Championships to be held in Sweden at the famous Gottskar venue some 40km south of Goteborg.

The principle host club SS Kaparen is building the team that will make the event a success on the water. Two other clubs, Varberg and Björlanda Kile Sailing Clubs, complete the triumvirate of organizing clubs that are putting on the Gottskar Race Week events from 1-10 August (RS Feva Worlds are from 2-7 August). The entries received so far are mainly from abroad as the Skandanavian boats are waiting for improved sailing weather before getting round to doing the mundane things like entering! More than 11 countries are expected to be on the starting line.

Entries so far include those of the current European champions Sofia Engstrom and Frida Langenius from Sweden. The British have a strong team assembled and the Italians have entered with a good contingent as well. Given that at last years European Championships in Ireland there were four different countries represented in the top four places the class is expecting a ding dong battle for supremacy this year.

The current forecast has it being beautiful, sunny and with good racing breezes for the next week in Gottskar. We just hope this forecast is repeated in three months time.

Gottskar will be a wonderful venue with the racing taking place in the fjord on the Eastern side of the Onsala peninsula. The venue is not dissimilar in looks to the Dalmation Coast of Croatia with lots of little islands dotted around. Others might compare it to the scenery that greets the cat sailors who take part in the world famous Archipelago Raid. Either way, the 29ers had a great event there last year and the Fevas are aiming to top that. Having been awarded the 2007 prize as ‘Organiser of the Year’ by the Swedish Sailing Federation it seems certain the hosts will be up for the event with lots having been learned and new tricks up their sleeve. The challenge is on for the various World Titles on offer.
