Friday August 29th 2008, Author: Ovington Boats, Location: United Kingdom
The first day of the finals at the 29er Nationals and the contrast in wind could not have been more different. A gentle eight knots with occasional puffs of ten swept Portland harbour and made a welcome change to many of the competitors.

In the Gold fleet Bleddyn Mon and Tom Humphreys proved they can still win in the light and posted three firsts and a second. The French team of Kevin Fisher and Glenn Gouron were the only team to get past to win the last race of the day. Max Richardson, after an excellent qualifying series have put their chances of an overall win at risk by taking an OCS in the third race of the day. Top girls Becky Diamond and Fiona Hampshire also liked the conditions and pulled up to fifth overall.

In the Silver fleet it is a battle of the girls. Lilly Carlisle and Becky Wallbank lead but are hotly chased by Anne Noble and Hayley Moran who had a good day with two firsts a second and a fifth.
