11th medal coming back?

Rumours have been circulating for a while about the Tornado possibly being put back into the Olympic line-up. For the most part these rumours are still more or less just that, but recently we have learned there is some truth to them.
After asking around a number of Olympic sailors recently we hear the IOC are now debating the possibility or re-introducing the 11th medal for sailing at the 2012 Olympic Games. Of course all that is known at the moment is that the IOC is debating the possibility but this is encouraging news all the same.
As many might remember there is already a precedent here as the IOC has previously removed one medal from the Olympic sailing competition back in 2000 before re-instating it. Back then it was the Star class that was removed and then re-instated.
Although we have stated at the top of this piece this debate is about the Tornado being re-instated, it is important to remember the IOC are only discussing bringing back the 11th medal. Even if the medal is brought back it is not definite the Tornado will be bought back. We understand if the IOC agrees to bring back the 11th medal it seems likely it will be a multihull event. However, this might be seen as a good opportunity to reassess the Tornados position as an Olympic multihull.
Of course no assumptions can be made at this stage and all that is really known for definite is the IOC is currently discussing the issue. We also know they will be making a decision in mid-October, we will keep you posted.
