The latest news from the ISAF meeting has come out, following yesterday’s votes from the Equipment Committee and the Women’s Committee. The Women’s Committee only voted on the female classes they recommended for 2012, while the Equipment Committee voted on the whole slate.
The Women’s Sailing Committee voted in favour of the following equipment:
Women’s Windsurfing – RS:X
Women’s 1 Person Dinghy – Laser Radial
Women’s 2 Person Dinghy – 29er XX
Women’s Keelboat Match – Elliott 6m
The Equipment Committee voted in favour of the following equipment:
Women’s Windsurfing – RS:X
Men’s Windsurfing – RS:X
Women’s 1 Person Dinghy – Laser Radial
Men’s 1 Person Dinghy – Laser
Men’s 1 Person Dinghy (heavyweight) – Finn
Women’s 2 Person Dinghy – 29er XX
Men’s 2 Person Dinghy – 470
Men’s 2 Person Dinghy (high performance) – 49er
Women’s Keelboat Match – Elliott 6m
Men’s Keelboat – Star
These recommendations now go on to be considered by the Events Committee before a final decision is made by the ISAF Council on Friday 14 November. It is worth remembering that the Council chose to ignore the recommendation by the Equipment Committee last year when the Olympic Events were being selected.
Interestingly if the 29erXX were chosen as the Women’s Two Person Dinghy some questions might be asked about what happened to the other skiffs that attended the Olympic Equipment Trial in Hyeres.
