After a strong breeze the days before conciliate conditions on the last day of the SAP 505 European Championship as part of the 127th Kieler Woche brought the last two races to a thrilling end.
With comfortable seven points ahead of his strongest competitor Jan Saugmann/Morten Ramsbaek (DEN) Wolfgang Hunger/Julien Kleiner (GER) started the day maybe a bit to relaxed. After a victory of the danish team in the second last race the sixteen time winner of the Kieler Woche Wolfgang Hunger came in distress with a tie of points and had to change his tactic from defence to attack. And it works. With a victory in the last race for Wolfgang Hunger/Julien Kleiner (GER) and a fourth place for Jan Saugmann/Morten Ramsbaek (DEN) the german team took the titel with a lead of four points and set a new Kieler Woche record. Sventeen times Hunger won the Kieler Woche and is now the most successful Kieler Woche sailor ever.
Third on the podium of the SAP 505 European Championship are the 16 time Kieler Woche winner Jorgen Bojsen-Moller/Jacob Bojesen-Moller (DEN). On the third day of the SAP 505 European Championship heavy winds and high waves forced the race officer to cancel the races for that day. But most crews agreed that it was wise not to sail. This cancellation was great luck for the cousins Jörgen and Jacob Bojsen-Möller. The Danes attended Jörgen's son's school's graduation event in Danmark and left Kiel for one day but due to the wind they were able still to hunt for the title.
Best German team behind the champions were Jens Findel/Johannes Tellen (GER) ahead of the best girl in the fleet of hundred boats Meike Schomaeker which sailed together Holger Jess, who was together with Hunger in the 505 for years. Former 505 World Champion Ian Pinell/Carl Gibbon (GBR) came in six.
