Greenhalgh into the lead

As after four bullets Grant Rollerson's Slam is damaged in a collision

Friday July 3rd 2009, Author: James Boyd, Location: United Kingdom
After a day of rest and relaxation that allowed competitors to enjoy the charms of Carnac, the Mark Foy Trophy for the 18ft skiffs resumed on Thursday. If the wind was rather light in recent days, the Bay of Quiberon today lived up to its reputation.

Around 15:30 the 30 boats racing at the Mark Foy Trophy got onto the water. On the first round, after one general recall, two favorites of the race, the British crew on Asko and Aussie veteran Trevor Barnabas on were declared OCS at the second start.

In this race once again overall race leader Grant Rollerson on Slam and with his seasoned crew of Mike Coxon and Jack Young showed their skill to take the race win. Behind, Rollerson was the only US entry Howie Hamlin on Macquarie followed by the leading Brit, Rob Greenhalgh's team on Benny.

With Rollerson claiming his fourth bullet of the series, it seemed that victory in the Mark Foy Trophy would be his and the Slam team. However with the start of the second race being held under a black flag and with the wind up to 16-18 knots, Slam was involved in a collision with two other boats, including Yandoo of John Winner (Snr) and was forced to abandon the race, dropped them down to fifth overall. This has passed the overall lead across to Rob Greenhalgh.
