Coan de Koning leads after the race organisers final complete the qualification stage of the F18 Worlds

Due to unkind weathergods the organisers at the F18 Worlds were still on the qualifying races today, placing tension on the racing committee, who still needed six qualifying races for the championship. On Tuesday there was no wind and no racing, and on Wednesday too much wind allowing only two races to be held - so what would Thursday bring?

Sadly the morning starts with next to no wind. The first start, race 5, for the first fleet was on schedule. The start for the second fleet had to be recalled and this brought about problems because they would be in the way of the first fleet arriving at the gate. So they needed to wait. Unfortunately at that point the wind dropped to 4 knots. The organisers shorten course for the first fleet (yellow and white) and with this came an unexpected win for Poland's Adam Skomski and Jakub Kopylowicz on their eXploder 18, followed by Germans Helge and Christian Sach on their Nacra Infusion and France's Gurvan Bontemps and Matthieu Marfaing on their Bimare X4 in third.



The wind dropped to 2 knots, forcing the racing committee to postpone and send everyone back to the beach.

After an hour, thankfully the seabreeze arrived and the green and blue fleets are called out to the water to sail their race 5 in 8 knots of wind. This time they get away smoothly with France's Billy Besson and Arnaud Jarlegan on their Nacra Infusion claiming honours followed by the strong Dutch pairings of Coen de Koning/Thijs Visser and Mischa Heemskerk/Bastiaan Tentij racing a Hobie Wildcat and an Infusion respectively.

As soon as they have started the second fleet is also called out on the water and made for an afternoon with the best racing so far seen at this World Championship.

Immediately after race five, green and white fleets sail their race six followed by yellow and blue.

Tomorrow the fleet will be divided into gold and silver.
