Britain’s Olympic Classes sailors can look forward to a month of tough domestic competition with the start of the annual RYA Olympic Classes National Ranking Series.

The Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta (14-19 September) is the first of the three regattas comprising the National Ranking Series, which takes place at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy and sees the top Skandia Team GBR stars pit their wits against regular Olympic Classes sailors from around the country.

The second of the National Ranker events takes place on the weekend of 3-4 October while the Series draws to a close a fortnight later (17-18 October).

Entry is now open for the RYA Olympic Classes National Ranking Series, with discounts available to those entering the October weekends in advance.

The Series provides quality national racing opportunities for aspiring 2012 hopefuls while continuing to offer top class racing and venues for all Olympic Classes sailors throughout the UK.

RYA grants and qualification for key international regattas are at stake, with racing across the Series taking place in Finn, 470 men and women, 49er and RS:X 9.5 and 8.5 classes.

“The National Ranking Series provides a great opportunity for Britain’s up-and-coming Olympic Classes talents to test themselves against Skandia Team GBR’s best,” said RYA Olympic Development Squad Manager Barrie Edgington.

“The Series always provides some tough domestic competition, and the fact it’s held on the 2012 waters at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy will be an added incentive to come along and compete alongside Britain’s best.”
