Returns please

The RYA is sending a rallying call to clubs as it prepares to send out the annual Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) return forms to its clubs.
The accuracy of the handicapping system, which allows boats of different classes to race against each other, is dependent on the quality of race result data returned by clubs to the RYA.
Bas Edmonds, RYA Technical Racing co-ordinator said: “The PY scheme is a fantastic club asset ensuring fair racing between different classes of boat. However without good annual club returns, the accuracy of the system is compromised.
“We are working hard to streamline and improve the system at our end, now it is down to the clubs to do their bit, ‘help us to help you’ is the message.
“This responsibility not only falls on the clubs and their officers to complete the retrns, but also to every sailor to make sure that the club sends the data in to the RYA.”
Since 2004, the RYA has offered its clubs the option of either the traditional paper return form or a new electronic return form in Excel format.
For those clubs who have previously submitted electronic returns, the 2008 form has been sent out to those registered email accounts. Paper returns are being printed and are scheduled for posting on Friday, October 3.
Should your club wish to receive an electronic return, please email Bas Edmonds pyreturn@rya.org.uk to request a 2008 electronic returns form.
