Sea breeze in October

Weston Sailing club were the hosts for the 2007 UK Byte National Championship on the weekend of the 13th and 14th of October. Not unusually for this year the forecast was not particularly hopeful, however, patience prevailed and all six races were held over the two days. Saturday started very light and after an hours wait racing got under way below very dull skies.
A five knot breeze held for the first two races which actually increased from the South East for the final race of the day. Dave Hall won the first two races closely followed by light wind specialist Sarah Gregson. Last year's champion Nick Miller took a while to get back on form but showed he was still up for a fight winning the last race in the stronger wind.
Sunday dawned and the possibility of wind looked even less that Saturday. A three hour wait was worth it as the Indian summer brought not only a beautiful sunny day but a sea breeze that built to a good 12 knots. Once again it was Dave Hall who took the first two races and Nick Miller who won the last in the building breeze. The stronger wind did not suit Gregson who allowed Eddie Pope to sneak past her overall position with a string of steady fourths.
Results:
1-Dave Hall 2946
2-Nick Miller 1623
3-Eddie Pope 1636
4-and first lady-Sarah Gregson 2616
5-and first Youth -Chris Rees 2620
