Weir Wood SC held an RS200 Open with plenty of breeze providing good racing for the fleet

Weir Wood SC held a South East Area Series RS200 open meeting on Sunday 1 July. 13 boats entered the event, including ten visitors, and were met with a good force four to five breeze, with plenty of bigger gusts, and heavy rain.

Andy and Jeraldine Peters started well, winning the first two races. Rob Janering and Marianthe Evangeledis finished second and Sam Littlejohn and Matt Giles third in both. With the Peters suffering gear failure and missing race three, everyone moved up one place, Janering and Evangeledis clocking a first, Littlejohn and Giles second and David Giles and George in third.

A hard earned lunch was then had, well timed, as the heavens opened and several big squalls passed through.

Janering and Evangelidis carried on from before lunch with another win, as did Littlejohn and Giles, again in second. Races five and six saw rather depleted fleets, as the conditions began to take their toll. The Peters added another two wins, but couldn’t quite take the title, finishing second overall as Janering and Evangeledis showed good consistency with two firsts and three seconds to win by a point. Littlejohn and Giles completed the podium in third.

Great thanks to the race committee for completing an ambitious six race programme and giving everyone a days sailing they won’t forget in a while.
