Shanshan stops play

Once again sailors were held ashore today at the Laser World Championship in Jeju, Korea. However, in contrast to yesterday, today's postponement was due to 25 knot winds and extremely large waves.
After a brief look at the course the decision was made to hold the fleet ashore until at least 15:30 but another course inspection at this time left no doubt and racing was cancelled for the day.
The strong winds are currently being caused by Typhoon Shanshan which is slowly tracking more towards Jeju than expected. As a result of this the next few days are expected to be extremely windy and the race committee have made a number of changes to try and maximise racing for competitors at the event. Firstly a windward leeward format has been adopted with only one fleet racing at a time to maximise safety coverage. Secondly the start times have been brought forward to 9:00am with the hope of taking advantage of the lighter winds early in the morning.
For results see yesterday's report.
