Still too light

Only four classes managed to get racing in at the ISAF World Sailing Games due to light winds

The final series got underway today, Tuesday, at the ISAF World Sailing Games in Austria. This part of the series marks what should be the most interesting part of the series as the World Champions and top ten ranked Olympic sailors join in the racing.

Sadly again the wind struggled to materialise for most of the day and competitors were left ashore waiting for it to fill in. At 16:00, local time, a light breeze could be seen filling in on the lake. All fleets were send on the water but for most it was not to be, racing was abandoned for all classes except the 49er, the RS:X and the Hobie Tiger almost all of whom managed two races.

Showing that they represent a real threat even with the added sailors in the final series, Andrew Walsh and Ed Barney are second overall. Ahead of them in first place the Germans, Johannes Polgar and Florian Spalteholz, had an impressive day scoring a first and a second.

There were no surprises on the 49er course as reining Olympic champions, Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernandez, took two bullets to lead over night. They were closely followed by Olympic silver medallists, Rodion Luka and Georgiy Leonchuk, who scored two second places. In third place currently are the Sibello brothers which leaves the podium looking pretty similar to all other events so far this year.

The forecast for Wednesday is for more of the same, starting light and increasing in strength through the day. Which may mean more late racing for the competitors.
