The RYA have recognised their first ever sailing school in the US

In response to the growing international demand for RYA qualifications, the RYA has recognised its first ever sailing school in the United States. Based in Sausalito, California, Modern Sailing Academy is now able to offer RYA approved sail cruising courses and certification. The Centre’s facilities including its vessels, equipment and staff passed it’s final inspection and now joins over 2,300 recognised RYA Training Centres across the world.

James Stevens, RYA Training Manager said: We welcome Modern Sailing Academy as an RYA Recognised Training Centre. The RYA with it’s experience, inspections and quality is still by far the yachtsmen’s preferred training option worldwide, and we are pleased that those wishing to undertake sail training in the US are now able to attend RYA approved courses.”

RYA recognition is recognised world wide for its high standard of training. Instructors and Training Centres have to meet a rigorous set of criteria before receiving RYA recognition. Once a centre receives recognition, these high standards need to be maintained, and the RYA inspects centres and instructors on a regular basis to ensure these standards are consistently met.

Modern Sailing Academy has already been teaching advanced and offshore sailing courses for over 15 years. The Centre will soon be expanding its range of RYA courses and from August 2006 will also be running RYA Shorebased courses.
