Adjusting the adjuster

Following the METS, London and Paris boat shows Spinlock have launched their new PXR cleat – a development from the PX model. The new cleat has an alloy base and cam, improving rope holding and optimised for the 2-6mm and 8 to 10mm ranges.
Central to the new design is the adjustable release spring (the beige slider near the rope exit - above), enabling the sailor to determine what weight of spring is desired for the release of the line. Fixed lines, such as dinghy spinnaker halyards and lines not regularly tended, can be controlled with a harder setting. Lines such as mainsheet travellers and vangs can be on a lighter setting. The sailor can also adjust the spring release on the water depending on the wind strength.
The PXR comes in three different models, each suited to a particular task on board. The VP includes a pivoting sheave and has found its first niche in catamaran mainsail downhauls where it can be mounted on the mast.
The T series uses the same 27mm and 38mm fixing holes as traditional cam cleats and so is an easy retro fit. Ideal applications on yachts and keeboats – are for mainsheet traveller and backstay.
The SW, swivel-mount, series comes in two sizes – one for the dinghy sailor, where it is used for spinnaker halyard and central jib sheet control for lines between 2 and 6mm. The larger size for 8-10mm line is suited for vang controls.
The PXR will next be on display at the Dinghy Sailing Show over the 4-5th March.
