Son beats father at Dragon European Championships

Claus Hoj Jensen has won the Dragon Europeans and beaten his father Poul Richard, sailing Danish Blue into second place in the process. The last race of the Championship decided which generation of Hoj-Jensen was to win the title with just 7.6points between the two when the start gun was fired. An eighth place on Sunday for Hoj Jensen Jr sealed overall victory.

Six races were completed in the Bay of Quiberon and the event was hosted by the Societe Nautique Trinite-sur-Mer. The weather had been generally light for the 53 Dragons competing with two days of no wind.

Poul Richard Hoj Jensen, a double Olympic Medallist in the Soling and who counts 98 national and international titles to his name, congratulated his son on his victory.

Babou Pasturaud, the top French sailor, finished strongly with a win in the final race to finish in third place overall. This final flourish was enough to knock the top British sailor Ivan Bradbury out of third place and down to sixth.

The Hanseatic Lloyd Dragon World Championship takes place in Neustadt, Germany, from the 19th to 28th August.
