News of the Gul RS800 Nationals later in the month

Preparations are hotting up for the 2005 GUL RS800 nationals, which will be held at Pwllheli Sailing Club in Wales from Saturday 27 August to Tuesday 30 August.

Following last year's bumper turnout of 80 boats at Plymouth, organizers are hoping for a similar number this year. The nationals will be shared with the RS600s, with the RS700s and RS400s at nearby Abersoch at the same time.

The focus of this year is fun off the water as well as on the water, and attractions include:

Free beer and beach games organized by Alan 'Spod' Olive
Team go-karting
Barbecue and prize-giving
Group buddy system to welcome newcomers and help old-timers
On the water videoing and feedback
10 races to the usual RS800 high standard of competitiveness
Daily prizes for gold, silver and bronze fleets, subject to numbers, and additional prizes including first lady and first master thanks to the continued generous sponsorship of GUL.

RS800 class rep Roland Emmans comments: "This should be a great nationals, as the conditions in Cardigan Bay are generally ideal, with stable winds and weak tides, not to mention the stunning scenery of Snowdon and the Welsh mountains. The location really is superb, with plenty to do for non-sailors too.

"The RS800 fleet is now run by a committee of volunteers who have all put in a lot of effort in thinking and planning to help the RS Association plan a cracking event. The social events should be as much fun as the sailing, and we hope this will encourage plenty of club sailors to join us.

"For those who have never been, the facilities at Pwllheli Sailing Club are excellent, with a reputation for excellent race management."

The entry fee for the GUL RS800 Nationals before 9 August is £115, with a £25 levy for late entry, and a reduction of £20 for youths under 19. No entries will be accepted after 19 August.
