The Contender fleet were the first boats out and the last boats in yesterday at the 116th Travmuende week. Marcus Hamilton (AUS) is the new leader after leapfrogging Jan von der Bank (GER) he now has a three point lead over the fleet. Third place is Giovanni Binzio (ITA).

Von der Bank scored a DNF in race four today. “I was hit by a strong wind shift on the wrong side”, explained the 38 years old, “and when I foundmyself in the high 40’s I thought it might my okay to simply give up.”

Hamilton, however took the chance and fought hard to finish 15th in what was a very strange race, and with a bullet in the next race he overtook his von der Bank with 19 in total.

Alexander Schlonski won the match races in the finals of the Laser class. He defeated his German competitor Thomas Reger after Tobias Schadewaldt and Simon Grotelueschen were disqualified due to pumping. “Nice format, dramatic racing close to the beach. This is the future of sailing”, said Schlonski.

The international German offshore champions in the IMS classes remain the same as in 2004. It was Horst Manns JV 42 L+M Hispaniola who successfully defended his title after a week full of protests and result corrections. Their closest rival was the new Grand Soleigh 42, Al Cap One III from Norway, helmed by former Europe dingy ace Peer Moberg, who finished only one and a half points behind.

“They really gave us a hard time on the water, and sailed very well.” said L+M Hispaniola tactician Thomas Jungblut. Christian Plums Rodman 42 sailing in Hanseatic Lloyd came in third. The IMS II victory went to Jan Hinrich’s Dehler 29 Lollipop from Berlin.
