Sixteen Supernovas attended the open event and travellers series at Wimbleball Reservoir, Exmoor on April 16th.
Boats from as far as field as Fowey, Oxford and Severn SC were greeted with sunny warm weather and variable North Westerly winds. The wind eventually filled and gave superb beats in the final race.
Boat designer and former builder Mark Giles (West Oxford) dominated all three races, despite being called back to the line after a premature start and David Everett, also from West Oxford finished overall second with two second place positions and a fourth. Ken Heap maintained a good lead in the first race, but after a control error Giles and Everett caught him with Heap finishing third.
Wimbleball SC sailor Paul Harwood in his new boat Number 600 improved his performance throughout the day and at times placed Giles and Everett under pressure. In the final race Giles and Everett again dominated followed by Geoff Richards and Chris Bower. Harwood finished a credible fifth.
1st Mark Giles 357 West Oxford SC
2nd David Everett 556 West Oxford SC
3rd Geoff Richards 452 Fowey Gallants
4th Chris Bower 549 Cardiff
5th Steve Hawley 492 Severn SC.
