Coaching the coaches

Coaches are an essential and growing reality of sailing competition today. With the assistance of the Istanbul Sailing Club, 470 Internationale has just completed the first of what is sure to become a regular and important event, the Coach the Coaches Seminar.
Attracting male and female coaches from all five continents and 24 nations including Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Holland and Japan, held over four days in the Turkish city of Istanbul the Seminar was a great success.
Coaches from a wide range of experience and across many classes shared information with and heard from the expertise of such coaching greats like Skip Whyte (USA), Hamish Wilcox (NZL), Illias Mylonas (GRE) and Victor Kovalenko (AUS) as well as Olimpic Sailmaker/Designer Renzo Sorci (ITA).

Dealing with sailors emotions
Painting the picture: Juniors to Olympics
Mast and Sail Development
How to categorise Opti Kids
The coaching Dynamic
How to overcome disappointment during class transition
Keeping Kids in the Sport
The Coaches Role in Speed Testing
Starting Strategy
Decision Making
Several of the participants who are accomplished Athletes and now Coaches gave personal experiences . Aiko Saito (JPN), Luis Rocha (POR) , Ilan Tastash (ISR) and Mark Robinson (SIN), gave special contributions to share their experiences and to explain their country models.
The event was possible with the grateful assistance of Yalcin Gurkan and the support of UK Sailmakers and the Turkish Sailing Federation. National federations were also very helpful in their cooperation.
