After months of anticipation, Splash Camp hits our screens this Friday at 4pm on ITV1. Funded by the British Marine Federation (BMF), Splash Camp is a ten part series to attract more than a million young people to the exciting world of watersports.
Starring five girls and five boys aged 11 and 12, the show is a combination of a game show and a battle of the sexes. Filmed in the Cotswolds over a ten week period, the programme sees the girls battle it out against the boys in weekly watersports challenges including, waterskiing, sailing, canoeing and power boating. Each week the children master a new watersport skill then go on to compete to win the week's challenge. The teams play for points, with the overall champions winning a fantastic Neilson Active holiday in the Mediterranean along with their families.
A Splash Camp website has been launched www.splashcamp.co.uk with all the inside gossip about the children and their antics, a teaser for the next programme, and all the information needed to get out on the water. There are facts on each of the watersports, advice on how to get started, and details of clubs around the country where children can get involved.
There is also a dedicated section for parents, providing everything needed to get the family out on the water. Everything from safety information through to costs and holiday options are covered on the website.
To help clubs and associations encourage young people to get involved, the BMF has linked up with the RYA, BCU, British Waterski and ARA to create a Splash Camp branded toolkit. It is free to use and includes Splash Camp logos, photos of the kids in action and ideas of how to get involved. There will also be an events calendar on the Splash Camp website for clubs to add local events to. This can all be found in the trade section of the website.
James Gower, Director of Marketing at the British Marine Federation and Executive Producer of Splash Camp said: "Splash Camp was amazing and the final cut has exceeded all our expectations. The children really enjoyed themselves and have learnt a wide range of watersports. We really hope the programme will encourage children from all over Britain to have a go themselves.
"Some of the Splash Campers are already going to their local watersports clubs and some of the families have booked watersports holidays for the summer."
Following a call for assistance from BMF members, companies supporting the project include Neilson, Honda, Laser, Barrus, Yamaha, Perception Kayaks and BIC Sport.
To catch a piece of the action, tune in to ITV1 at 4pm on Friday 15 April.
