Two races were completed in all of the classes, apart from the boards, who completed three races at the 35th Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships being held in Busan, Korea.

The wind conditions out on the water today were more consistent for the young sailors, south-westerly 5-10 knots.

In the Hobie 16 class, there are only eleven countries competing, the racing has been really competitive and there is only a 5 point difference dividing the top four boats. But at the moment, it’s the Australian team of Walker and Langford are leading with 15 points from the French and Italian teams who both have 19 points, but last years champions British pair, Phipps and Cook are only just behind with 20 points.

In the 420 class, the French pair, Lumeau/Bossard are continuing to dominate the girls fleet, and added a 1st and a 3rd to their results sheets, therefore they are leading the class with 7 points, 20 points clear of their nearest rivals; Magill/Provancha from the USA.

In the Mistral boys fleet, Tukasz Grodzicki impressively won all three races today, and ends the day on 5 points, in second place is Spain’s Juan Moreno with 20 points.

Athens Silver Olympic medallist, Joe Glanfield, who is coaching the British Hobie and 420 class’s at these championships commented; “I have been really impressed by the level of sailing at this regatta, there is so much depth in the classes that I have been watching and the racing skills are exceptional for sailors of this age group. There are defiantly some contenders for future Olympic Champions on the water here this week”.

On the overall results table, France is dominating the championship and looks likely to defend the Volvo Nations Trophy.

There are two races scheduled for tomorrow, for all of the class’s, the first discard will kick in after six races.
